Ruben Amorim admits Manchester United need to improve to return to top level soon, says squad should be improved

Manchester United drew 0-0 with Manchester City in a dull derby on Sunday, meaning the Red Devils have won just six of their 20 league games since new boss Ruben Amorim took over in November.

With this score, it means the Red Devils must win every remaining match to avoid their worst Premier League season, with a high chance of finishing in the bottom half of the table.

“I think we need to improve in every aspect of the game, whether it’s creativity, passing, clear decision-making in the final third,” Amorim said after the game.

“All the players can improve, they are here because they have shown something at other clubs, they have quality. We are a team that plays in the final third, we need to spend more time in the final third to have more chances.”

“I see progression. I see a little bit of a connection improvement. You can feel the players feel a little bit more comfortable in the position.”

“I’m not naive or crazy. I see the moment we’re in, I look at the opponents and I understand that we’re missing a lot of players, but as a leader I can’t say that we’re going to take all the time to close that gap. Even if we want to bring in players, we have to hurry up and show the urgency to do better because we don’t have a lot of time in a club like this. We’re rushing.”

Neither club is in contention for the Premier League title, with United 13th in the table and City fifth.

“Today was a good day for us. Of course you can feel it in the game. It wasn’t at the highest level, the intensity, but you can understand the context of both teams in this moment as well.”
